Brian Mueller, MAcc, EA, CPA was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina to a family of Eastern European origin. He moved to the United States by himself at age 18 to pursue the American Dream, with just $432 in his wallet, his beloved Fender Stratocaster electric guitar, and a set of old golf clubs. He left his family and friends behind to come to the land of opportunity and make his dreams come true, working full-time to get himself through six years of school while also playing Texas Blues music every single weekend of his undergraduate and graduate life. The rest, as they say, is history!
Academic Background and Licenses
Brian Mueller holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Master’s of Accounting degree from St. Edward’s University in Austin, TX; is licensed as an Enrolled Agent (EA) by the IRS to represent taxpayers at the Federal level; and is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) by the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy.
With over a decade of federal and state income tax experience, a proven record of successful business consulting experience, as well as significant international tax experience, Brian Mueller has served thousands of individuals and business entities in all 50 states and 41 countries abroad. Brian has been exposed to a diverse array of industries throughout his career, including real estate, construction, healthcare, professional services, consulting, entertainment, restaurants, retail, professional services, and many others. His areas of expertise also include substantial domestic tax litigation and controversy engagements, where he obtained numerous favorable and notable Tax Court decisions on behalf of his clients while representing them before the IRS. Brian has also successfully operated in the support litigation arena, having been deposed as an expert witness in prior occasions. He completed his tax internship and apprentice at the prestigious CPA firm Maxwell, Locke & Ritter, worked for a local CPA firm in the Austin area, and then transitioned to spend over five years as a Partner at a tax consulting firm in Austin, Texas and Zurich, Switzerland before becoming the leading Tax Partner at Mueller 2020 and Mueller CPA, PLLC.
Commitment to the profession, Dedication to the Community
In addition to his role as Tax Partner at Mueller 2020 and Mueller CPA, PLLC, Brian is also very active in the professional accounting community via multiple director-level roles at the Texas Society of CPAs (Austin Chapter and Statewide Chapters); as well as in academia, where he serves as an accounting professor at the MBA Program at Concordia University. Brian is a frequent CPE lecturer on diverse topics including advanced Tax Planning and International Tax, and also serves as a member of the Austin Community College Accounting Advisory Board, where he also mentors accounting students. Brian is also a frequent guest speaker at local universities and colleges in the Austin, Texas area.
